Motion Graphic posts from our motion design team - Gyu Yong Lee, Juan Diego Yurrita, Tan Tan Ngyuyen

SCAD StartUp

SCAD Startup is a student-run competition designed to help students learn, connect, and create the next big innovation. As a Motion Designer and Brand Identity Designer on the board team, I developed brand design systems and created motion graphics for social media posts.

The existing color guidelines were to visually distinct this year's prize categories with color coordination. This year’s branding uses gradients pulled from our primary color palette to curate colorful accents that are used in contrast to our monotone blacks and whites.

Each primary gradient is color-coordinated to one of the three design categories:

Green: Automotive

Orange: Wearable Technology

Blue / Violet: Home Technology

While aligning with the key brand guidelines, we incorporated additional messaging to strengthen the emotional tone of our motion graphics. Our goal was to evoke grace, soul, and a sense of connection through the designs. To achieve this, our motion designers adjusted keyframe easing to transition smoothly in and out, creating a harmonious experience for the audience. We were also advised to ensure each animation loop lasted no less than 60 frames. I personally collaborated with the motion designers to fine-tune the graph editor, ensuring adherence to the "ease ease" guideline.

The brand team and I ensured that every motion graphic aligned with the design system by providing feedback on both the animation and the visual appearance of the assets. To maintain a consistent visual style across videos, we shared pre-baked textures created in Redshift, ensuring uniformity in appearance regardless of each asset's unique shape.

Social media: Guidelines and Experiments

Final

As a result, our team created 6 distinct social media posts, featuring the first theme of our contest: Home Technology. Each post uncovers information of the contest, our brand identity, starting date, and this year's Sponsors to the audience.
